Fished south about 6 miles off Russian gulf in about 50 ft of water. There are some kelp beds just offshore that we can drift by if the drift is just right (which it was). Got a beautiful grade of fish and a nice variety as well. Caught blues, blacks, china cod, gophers, seatrout, cabazone, yellowtail rockfish, and threw back lots of 25 inch lings. Managed to land one over the mark. 20 lb lingcod caught by Chris Vanderkelen(picture) from Fernley Nv. Not bad for light tackle with 15 pound test line. Chris was fishing with a 2 oz torpedo jig with a teaser hook above. Fish-On!

08/16/04, afternoon trip

Took out a PAL (police activity league) trip today. Had a bunch of kids and they did great! Fished again just on the north side about 1 mile away. Pretty much scored limits of nice fish and were back at the dock by 5:00. The weather was great and the fish were biting. We through back lots of small ones at first, but then the big ones started to bite. Lots of action for the kids! Good job kids!!

Went out with a light load today. Fished locally on the north side. Did great! Limits of rockfish and one nice ling weighing in 20 lbs caught by regular John Garrett from Windsor. Conditions are considerably better. The wind backed off, the swell came down and the fish kept biting.

Fished close today. About 1/2 mile north of the whistle buoy. Lots of fish stacked up. The wind is still blowing out of the south. Not what you would call nice summer conditions. First trip we didn't get limits. Managed to scratch out 3/4 limits plus one ling over the 30" mark. Dan Norrish from Reno Nv. landed the ling weighing in at 16 lbs. Picture- local, Jasmine Flores had a fun time pulling in some doubles of nice size blue rockfish. Way to go Jasmine!! Fish-on!

This afternoon we had some excellent action on our light tackle. The wind was blowing out of the south up to about 20 kts. A bit foggy as well. But that didn't keep the fish biting. Couldn't fish the bottom very well cause the drift was bad, but ended up with limits of rockfish for 15 anglers anyway! We did manage to find one ling over the mark. About 15 lbs caught by my brother-in-law Josh Schneider from Reno Nv. Way to go Josh!!

Yesterday we had 3 salmon in the morning for 15 anglers. Biggest one weighing in at 21 pounds caught by Jerry Liu from Dickerson Maryland. In the afternoon yesterday we ended up with limits of rockfish for 16 anglers with 5 nice ling cod! This morning's trip we ended up with 4 salmon for 16 anglers. Kind of slow, but if you were one of the lucky ones, you had a good chance of taking home a nice salmon. Picture from left to right; Bruce Goddard from Mendocino-23 lbs, Chuck Crist from Modesto-keeper, David Dubois from ?- 25 lbs, and Arnold Larson from Reno-20 lbs! Nice job. Bruce Goddard was nice enough to share his salmon with everyone else on the boat who didn't get any. So everybody on the boat went home with a nice steak off a 23 pound salmon. Fish for dinner!!

Bottom fishing is open!! So far, we have had limits of rockfish on every trip. Nice grade too! Lings are there, but the minimum size is 30 inches. Believe it or not, we are getting some over the mark. For this time of the year, that's excellent! Today we fished about 6 miles south. Just below Pt Cabrillo Lighthouse in 40-80 ft of water. Light tackle!! What a kick! Had more fish then we knew what to do with. This picture shows just a few of the nice fish that we went home with. Had limits for 19 anglers and the ocean was beautiful as well. Ling-Ling!

The last couple of days the salmon fishing has tapered off. Still catching a few, but slowing down. Today we fished up north on Ten Mile Beach in about 80 ft of water. A watermelon apex had some good action today. Ended up with 9 fish for 12 anglers. Bottom fishing opens today. Fish-On!
