Crab season is OPEN!!!

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

IMG_0788November 2, 2014– Opening day of crab season! I went out and set my pots early in the morning because we’re not allowed to pre soak sport gear. I ended up with 2 full loads. We didn’t get limits, but we got plenty of crabs to eat. I ended up with 7 crabs per customer. Up here the limit is 10 on a sport boat! Not a bad considering we were fishing on a short soak. Over all the grade was nice. My deckhand brought me up one to show me and it had to be 8 1/2 ” or better. There weren’t any shoft shell’s reported. Total catch for the day; 330 crabs!! Fish-On!

salmon fishing in September

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

IMG_1180September 16, 2013– Still salmon fishing. Catching some nice one too! Went out with a light load today (had some no-shows). We started fishing just north of the bouy in about 80 ft of water off of Pudding Crk. Mike Sjoquist from Fort Bragg hooked up right away. He landed a nice 17 lb king! Mike was fishing at 35 feet on a downrigger. Nothing else happened for some time so I decided to pick up and run up where I had fish a couple of days ago just north of the reef. It looked good but no hungry fish. So, I trolled back down where we had our first fish and about the time we got back to just about the same spot “fish-On”. Christine Griggs from Willits landed one about 18 pounds. That gives everyone (all 2 of them) a fish. We trolled around there the rest of the trip with no more action. At the end, I told everybody to catch one bringing your gear in, and Christine hooked up a nice one. After a heck of a battle, Christine won. The fish measured out 43 inches long and weighed in at a nice 42 lbs!! Nice job Christine! Fish-On!

Salmon, Salmon, Salmon!!!

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

July 16th, 2013–Salmon are still hanging out close to the buoy. And the grade is getting bigger and bigger! We ended up with 22 fish today for 16 anglers. We broke a record today, that’s the most I have filled the fish box that close to the buoy. I’m pretty sure we couldn’t fit another fish in it!! I wish I had that problem more often. Nothing over 30lbs, but lots of them over 20!! The biggest fish was 28 lbs caught by Carol Hannah from Carson City, Nv. Bob Ruddock from Lakeport caught the next one down at 27lbs. We were catching them on cut anchovy under a hoochie behind a flasher at 35 to 45 ft down with a 2lb ball. More to come!! fish-On!

7/14/13 rockfish report

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

We went rockfishing today. Kind of chilly out with the south wind blowing. That didn’t keep the rockfish from biting. We ended up with just about limits of rockfish for 13 anglers and 8 lingcod. Biggest Ling was caught by Sydney Foster out of Gridley weighing in at 16lbs!! She caught it on a motor oil scampi tail on a 4oz leadhead. We were fishing about 2 miles south in 70 ft of water. Nice job Sydney! Fish-On

Fish are just hanging out at the buoy. I like it. It is only 8-10 minutes from the dock to the fishing grounds. Nice grade too! Biggest one was 28lb 3oz caught by Amanda Moore out of Sacramento. Runner up was Mike Duvall from Upper Lake with a 24 lb king. Susie Sagan from Grass Valley got a limit of kings with one of them 22lb 10oz. Great job by everyone!    Fish-On!

We fished just south of the harbor for rockfish today. The grade of fish was very nice. Blues, Blacks, and Olives were hungry. We scored limits of them and got a few lings to top it off. We also released 4 nice salmon on our rockfish gear. They ranged from 15 to 25 lbs. I call a buddy of mine who was offshore trolling for salmon and he said it was kind of slow. So I sugessted that he come make a few passes by me. As soon as he got in sight , he started hooking up. I think he ended up with 4 nice salmon. Biggest one weighed 36 lbs. !! So that evening I decided to go out and see if they are still there. So 1 friend and my boys headed out for a quick trip. We ended up by the buoy and landed 34 fish and released that many. Biggest one was 33 lbs. landed by Bruce Lawrason out of Ft. Bragg. Fish-0n

6/28/13 salmon report

Sunday, June 30th, 2013

Friday June 28th, 2013– The salmon were right out in front of Noyo Harbor today. We trolled our usual arsenal of assorted hoochie’s and rotary killer’s and such the like. The one with the most activity was a j-71 hoochie over a cut anchovy behind a flasher 45 ft down with a 2lb ball.  A hot pink hoochie was the runner up. We had a hard time keeping them in the water. The j-71 was hot through the next trip as well. I put the same exact set-up on the bow downrigger and put it at the same depth, and nothing. The next trip, the bow rod was the first to go off. It still didn’t land a fish until today. More on that later. We fished in 270 to 300 ft of water. Our final score was 9 salmon for 17 anglers. Nice grade too. We had 5 fish over 20 lbs! Big fish for the day are ; 20lbs caught by Josh L. out of Cloverdale. 21lbs caught by Ray Hayes from Menlo Park, 2-24lb landed by Brandon Austin out of Ukiah and Rob from Windsor, but the  money fish was landed by Matt Masciovini. Good job guy’s.     Fish-On!
