Sunday June 26th, 2011 — Although there’s some possible rain in the forecast, the winds are going to calm down and the ocean should be pretty calm. Today we fished for salmon. We landed one just after we set our gear in the water and lost a nice one a few minutes later. I thought today might be the day. But, the bite shut-off. I trolled back down towards the buoy and right at the end pulling our gear to go home, we hooked up. Before we were thru, we landed 2Â more nice fish and lost one. The radio talk sounded like most boats started having action again. I think there are some fish here. Lets hope there here for awhile. I will find out tomorrow. Kenneth Grimm is showing off this nice 12 pounder. Fish-On!

We went out today looking for some hungry rockfish. We found lots of rockfish, but not too many hungry rockfish. The salmon water was in and the rockfish don’t like to bite in the salmon water. I tried a bunch of spots north to just above the reef and finally decided to run all the way back down and try just south of the harbor. I wanted to go south to start with, but with all this wind we’ve had out of the northwest, and the ride I put up with the last time, I was hesitant. By 10:00 the winds haven’t come in yet so off we go looking for some clear water. It wasn’t near as brown south and I think it payed off. I don’t think we ended up with half limits for an average, but we definitely caught most of our fish in the last half hour. Some anglers caught 5 fish at our last spot. Cory Richards and her 6 year old son from Ordbend Ca. had a team effort in landing this double of ling cod. The bottom one was just under size, but the top one was dinner.

Rockfishing aboard the Telstar*
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011
June 22nd, 2011 — The Telstar* went south fishing for rockfish and lingcod. We had some pretty fair action today and the weather was good too! We ended up with 3/4 limits of rockfish for 16 anglers and 1/2 dozen keeper lings! Biggest one was about 10 pounds. Great variety today. Some bags had 7 different species in them. Conditions were acceptable. The water was a bit cold at 49 degrees. I went south looking for some clear water and we found that. We jumped quite a few spots working south and ended up fishing the last part of our trip just north of Mendocino in 50 to 70 feet of water. The wind stayed out till the end of the trip. Fun was had by all. Fish-On! Windy days
Tuesday, June 21st, 2011
June 21, 2011 — finally got some relief from the wind. The forecast was calling for wind, but it didn’t show here. My last few salmon trips have been unsuccessful. Today was the first day Ive been able to get out to 300 feet of water. Early in the trip we went up north and ran our crab gear and yielded only a crab a pot. We fished all over up there from 120 feet of water out to 250 feet. Everything looks fishy! We had one small fish on for awhile but lost it. After a couple of hours we went in to run our crab pots again and scored 4 keepers per pot!! With limits of crabs for 10 anglers I thought we’d try a little more fishing on the way home. I went out to 300 feet of water off Pudding Creek and some nice edges were forming. I started marking some fish and decided to get some gear wet. I about 10 minutes we were hooked up. Harry Zabel from Upper Lake landed a 17 pound king! Next to him in the picture is Bob Barthel from Kelseyville showing some nice crabs. We ended up with one more fish on before we had to head in but lost it near the boat. I guess that’s how they get bigger. We’ll get him next time. Fish-On!

Salmon report
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
June 14, 2011– This is typical June weather. Lots of wind, white water over the sides, and salmon jumping in the boat. We’re only missing one thing… the fish jumping in the boat. Actually we had some pretty good action considering all. Not as good as what I heard yesterday. We had a little bit tougher weather today. The wind stayed just offshore although we certainly felt the residual effects of it. The waves were steep and close together. That and the fish that we landed were very strong. Together they made for a challenge. We had lots of other action but only ended up with 5 nice salmon. We went back out in the afternoon and went north instead and found a couple of keepers. One was 11 and the other was 12 pounds caught by Dawson Hall/Orangevale and Wes Smith/Placerville respectively. We’ll go see what we can round up tomorrow (weather permitting). Fish-On!

Salmon report
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
6/12/11 — First, a quick rundown on my past fishing. I haven’t fished for salmon for the past several days. I have been doing rockfish/crab combo’s. Pretty much the same report as before. Fished north and had 6 or more lings per trip with an average of 3/4 limits of rockfish. The grade of rockfish has been excellent with some black rockfish pushing 5 pounds! Great fun on light tackle. Picture; company trip (Pacific Supply Santa Rosa/San Rafael) showing off some good groceries. Trip was on 6/11. Crabbing has still been great! Now for the Salmon report; The salmon started biting the day before yesterday with the bite increasing by the day. Today’s report was most of the private boats were on their way in by 9:00 with limits of nice salmon. Largest one I heard of was 36 pounds caught out of Albion. I heard of lots of 25 pounders landed right out front of Noyo Harbor. Tomorrow I have 2 salmon trips so I should have a report up early evening. Wish us luck! Fish-On!

June ?
Saturday, June 4th, 2011
June 4th, 2011– We went out after rockfish and crab today. Some strange weather we’re having. I think we’re still in March. We had an offshore wind today. Usually 20 to 30 kts. The ocean was flat, but the drift was strong. First thing we did was head up to Ten Mile Beach to get our crab pots fishing. Then we went to try our luck at some rockfish. If you worked your gear, you could get some fish, but it was tough. The grade of fish was excellent. Lots of big blacks and some nice reds too. My thoughts were that the winds were going to blow through early so at 10:00 I decided to go run our crab pots and maybe give some time for the winds to die down. The pots yielded good counts. On our first run we scored 74 crabs out of 20 pots. Not bad for a 2 hour soak. When we got back to our rockfishing grounds, the wind was blowing even harder. We fished for another hour and a half and returned back at the crab grounds to stack our pots. We added another 55 crabs to make our grand total 129! Just over 9 per person. Final score on fish was about 1/2 limits with 1 keeper ling. Picture; Deckhand Sean Thornton (left) and to his right passenger Shawn Blower out of Willits, Ca. are showing off one of our better pots with 9 keepers and 4 throwbacks. Fun was had by all. Fish-On!

Rockfish & Lingcod !
Thursday, June 2nd, 20112nd of June, 2011 — We went rockfishing south today. We still have a strong current out of the north but the south wind seemed to counter-act it. We found our best fishing in close to the rocks. About 40 feet of water. The water was clear and 54 degrees. First time I’ve seen the school fish in numbers in 3 years. We had the blues up on the surface and hungry. Lots of action. Great variety too! Ended up with 6 keeper lingcod, some cap’s, and a couple of nice vermillions. Over all, I think we were pretty close to limits of fish for 11 anglers. Ocean was nice and the sun was shinning for the most part. Lots of fun!! Fish-On!
17 pound average!
Wednesday, June 1st, 20111st of June, 2011 — Started off going straight out looking for some hungry king salmon. Had our first bite in 240 ft of water. No taker though. The currents strong out of the north so it makes it hard to troll around all the crab pots. The current is so strong, the crab pot buoy’s are underwater most of the time. I kept trolling west and finally hooked a good one in 300 ft of water. One in the boat. That was about 9:00 a.m. Trolled the rest of the day and didn’t have any more bites. Until… right at the end, we were in 130 ft of water off the yellow house. We pulled our first rod out of the water to go home and … “Fish-On!” On the other side of the boat we had hooked another fish. Good fighter! Landed it to make our score 2. With little time left, there were no other bites.
Picture; on the left is Valerie Cameron from Las Cruces New Mexico and next to her is her brother Benjamin from Yuba City Ca. Valerie’s fish weighed in at 16 pounds and her brother’s fish was 20 pounds. Nice job!
