November 24th, 2012 crabs, crabs, crabs!!

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

Another good day to be out on the ocean. We ended up with another nice load of hungry anglers looking for some nice big dungenous crabs. We averaged just over 7 keepers per pot. Nice big crabs full of meat! Our best pot was 15 keepers. The swell was starting to build again so we picked up my string of pots in the shallow water and brought them home with us. Tomorrow I have a light load and the outside string should produce what we need. Everybody had fun pitching in. Our end score was 240 crabs for 24 anglers and back at the dock by 11:00. THANKSGIVING CRAB!!!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

11/21/12– We’re giving thanks today for the weather cooperating with us and for the crabs being hungry. On the way to the boat this morning we had a rain squall come through that must have dropped 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water. The forecast is calling for a pretty good size swell. When everybody was present, I told them that the game plan was to go run our 17 pots that we have out there and come in. So whatever those pots have in them is what we get. We needed 100 crabs to get limits. Well, needless to say, everybody left with 10 crabs apiece!! The rain didn’t show itself and the sun came out. Not only that, we saw our first Grey Whale of the year migrating south. Everybody worked hard today especially (picture left to right) Meghan Guthrie from Yuba City and Tori Escheman from Marysville Ca. Good job girls!! I hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving! I know I will. Fish-On!

Limits of Crabs!!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Tuesday, November 13th 2012– Another fine day of crabbing. The Telstar* left the dock at 0700 hrs and headed up north to the prime crabbing grounds. Beautiful morning out. Seas are calm with little or no wind. Chance of rain but we’re ready for it. After a 35 minute run, we stopped at our first pot. 10 nice big jumbo’s! Needless to say, we scored limits for 8 anglers (80 crabs) without having to pull all our pots. We were back at the dock by 0930hrs. By 0940 the crabs were cooking. I must say, I had a very good lunch today! Fresh crab!!

Crab season is here!!!!

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

Crab season opened on the 3rd of November. From now on, it will open the first Saturday in November. I’ve done several trips since the opener and scored limits every trip. The numbers seem to be holding strong. On the opener we set our pots about 2 hours before we started to pull them. We averaged 8 crabs per pot. Not bad for a 2 hour soak! The size is great too! They’re just a little bit light but Teddy took home a limit of 10 and weighed them and they weighed 21 pounds. That’s just over 2 lbs per crab. Our best pot so far has been 18 keepers. That’s what I like to see. The week before Thanksgiving is a busy week so if you would like to go, I recommend calling soon before I fill up. I look forward to hearing from you. Fish-On!
