Nice weather!!

May 11th, 2011 report– Fishing was pretty slow today. The ocean was flat and the winds were calm. First I dropped 20 crab pots up north on the beach in about 20-25 ft of water. I figured that by the time we were done with that I might hear of a good fishing spot. Not so. So we ran west till I found some bait and put in our salmon gear. Not much action getting reported from all my feelers out there. Not much happening where I’m at. The water temp is a bit cool (48 degrees). Finally we hooked up are one and only bit of action. Richard and Tracy our on their honeymoon from Wichita and would like nothing better than to taste some of our fresh wild ocean caught salmon. Well, there you have it! Tracy scored! A nice 9 pound king. Just right for eating. Good job Tracy. At about 12:30 I decided to go in and run our crab pots. 84 nice jumbo’s. 8 around for everybody on the crabs!!! Thank goodness for the good crabbing! Fish-On!

Good Fishing?

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Monday, May9th, 2011– salmon/crab combo up north again. Weather a little different today. Northwest winds are blowing. Today if you were to ask me how fishing was, I would reply “That’s depends on who you ask”. Rodger was the lucky one to land not only one salmon but two nice ones. He even let one go. That was the only fish we boated today. Crabbing still holding on strong with a score of 103 crabs. At least everyone got to take home 8 crabs apiece. Fish-On

5/7/11

Monday, May 9th, 2011

I have some folks who would like to add some crabs to the menu today so crab and salmon it is. Fished up north in my usual place. Fish not very hungry though. Sounds like there were some fish caught down by the buoy early. After crabbing first thing we tried for some salmon with no avail. Hoping maybe that there will be a late bite, I decided to go in and run our crab pots again. Our second run was better giving us a grand total of 92 crabs for 11 anglers. Then I decided to run down to the buoy and do some last minute fishing. As I was passing by my previous hot spot I noticed all kinds of birds. Pelican’s, murre’s, commorant’s, seagulls and the like. It looked good. I couldn’t pass it up so I stopped and chucked my lines in. At 1:00 we put our first salmon in and by the time we pulled our lines in at 3;30 we had landed a total of 8 kings!!! Good call! Fish-On!

The wind picked up today but that didn’t keep the fish from biting. Went back up north where I had fish two days ago. The water looks great with birds working everywhere and bait jumping out of the water. The fish were still there. We landed 11 fish for 11 anglers and released a couple of shakers. We lost 3 or 4 nice fish too. In the end, everyone (just about everyone) had a great time. The ride home was comfortable with the seas on our stern. Biggest fish landed was 16 pounds caught by Luis Hernandez out of Napa. Cheers!

Fresh salmon for dinner tonight!!

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

May 4th, 2011– Went back up north and put my crab pots in 55 feet of water off Ten Mile Beach. Headed offshore till the salmon gear was ready to fish. Put the gear in the water in 200 feet of water and trolled around trying not to lose any gear on all the crab pots that are scattered all over the place. Managed to clear them and saw some birds outside of us working the water. Nothing there that is interested in what I am offering.  Started trolling in towards the reef where I had a triple header several days ago. My crew is changing gear and depths and throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them. Finally, it happens. “Hook-up port side”. “We have a double”. Lost them both. That was about 11:30. Time is running out. Pretty soon we have run our crabpots. “Hook-up”. “Double”. “Triple!”. “We have 4 hanging”. I found one little spot in 140 feet of water off the reef and every time I went over it we hooked up. By 1:00 we had limits of salmon for 6 passengers and my deckhand and myself!! Richard Shupack from San Francisco landed to two biggest at 21 and 24 pounds. Awesome fishing! It’s about time. Went in and ran our crabpots and ended up with 67 crabs. Limits for the customers and a few left over for the crew. The current has definitely changed. Not so strong out of the north. Maybe some fish our going to be here for awhile. Picture port to starboard; Jon Ward from Paradise, Richard Shupack from San Francisco, David Williams from Denver Co., Bill Riley from S.F., Dan Marsh from Novato, and local Wayne Giannini. Nice job by everyone. Fish-On!!

4/30 & 5/1/11 Where’s the fish?

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

On Sat. we did a crab combo. Good thing too. Fished up north by the reef and got one bite. Thank goodness for crabbing. Ended up with 7 crabs per person for 15 anglers. Nice grade of crabs too! On Sunday, we fished down south looking for some action. I had a light load (4 anglers) hoping to find some fish and get all you fisherpeople out there excited and charter my boat. I’ve got to be honest with you, We had one bite again. Conditions were really good with bait showing and nice rips in the water. This time of year can be that way. The current is still strong out of the north. Fish-On

I decided to give the crabs a break today. I heard of a little bite south of the whistle buoy so thought we’d go scout it out. The fish didn’t start to bite until late. We had lots of action but didn’t boat all of them. Some smaller fish but the one’s we landed were just fine! We were fishing in 200 to 240′ of water. Best action came on cut bait with a jailbird hoochie at 45 pulls with a 2 lb weight.

Picture; on the left is Chris Pedersen from Sac. and next to him is Abel Duren from SanJose. The fish rainged from 8 to 10 pounds.Fish-On!!

Did a crab/salmon combo today. Set our pots up north on Ten Mile Beach in 50 to 60 feet of water. Seas are calm, winds are light out of the north. Fished up north by the beach for a couple of hours with no avail. Went in and ran our crab pots and caught limits for my 8 anglers and a few for the crew. Cruised down by the buoy and fished for awhile. The conditions started to look good. We ended up getting three fish on (keepers) but didn’t boat any of them. Looks like crab for dinner tonight.

Afternoon fishing 4/23

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Ended up with a trip this afternoon. Ocean still flat. 7 anglers are trying their luck at capturing the infamous king salmon. Picked a double right away! Could it be an afternoon bite? Well, it turned out to be not too different from this mornings trip except we didn’t let as many fish get away. Ended up with 5 fish for 7 anglers and only lost 1. Fished the same area. The current is out of the north pretty strong. I hear there are some big fish up Shelter Cove way. Maybe this current will bring them our way. About the same grade as this morning too. Rex Parker from Janesville, Ca.(left), and Dennis Lawrence from Cobb Mtn are showing off their prize catch for the day. Dinner tonight!! Fish-On!

a.m.– I thought we’d give the crabs a break today and just concentrate on the salmon. We had some action as well as most of the boats out on the water. Our problem was keeping them on the line long enough to put them in the boat. We fished north and south of the whistle buoy but not more than a mile. I stayed in about 200 to 240 ft of water. Nothing in particular was the hot ticket. Most everything we put in the water had some action. Our score was 5 fish in the boat and lost 7 and released 1 shaker. The ocean was flat and very enjoyable to be on. Local Dennis Barney won the fish pot with a 12 pound king. The smallest one weighed in at 9 lbs. Left to Right; regular Susie Copeland, Carrie Lees (local), Dennis Barney (local), Steve Heindl from Lakeport and Rusty Hays from Mendocino, Ca. Fun was had by all! Fish-On
